OPP SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE WITH BREAK AND ENTERS AND THEFTS IN COCHRANE

(COCHRANE, ON) – Since June 1, 2017, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Cochrane, Ontario have investigated multiple Break and Enter and Theft occurrences throughout the Town of Cochrane.

Several areas within Cochrane have been targeted, however the majority of the infractions have been committed between 3rd and 8th Streets and 11th and 18th Avenues and many are still unsolved.

Police investigation reveals that 28 Thefts and 19 Break and Enters have been reported which involved stolen property such as electronics, bicycles, fuel, lawn ornaments, tools, Canadian currency as well as personal property; all of which were stolen from motor vehicles, residences, garages and businesses.

4 PEOPLE ARRESTED

On September 21, 2017 the OPP executed two search warrants on separate residences relating to the Break and Enters and Thefts.  Police have arrested and charged four individuals.

Dalton WESLEY, 19, of Cochrane stands charged of the following:

  • Seven counts of Break and Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC
  • One count of Theft Under $5,000 from Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) CC.

He is being held pending a bail hearing in Cochrane.

Also charged is a 16 year old male from Cochrane who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  The charges include:

  • Seven counts of Break and Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC
  • One count of Theft Under $5,000 from Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) CC.

Furthermore, a 17 year male from Cochrane who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with Break and Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) CC.  He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on October 17, 2017.

Additionally, a 15 year old female from Cochrane, who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act was also charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC.  She was released on a Promise to Appear and his scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on October 17, 2017.
