On September 21st and 22nd 2019, the Town of Cochrane will be hosting a coaching clinic for current and aspiring community sports coaches in association with the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) during National Coaches Week.

September 21st to 29th 2019 marks the fifth annual National Coaches Week (15th Coaches Week in Ontario) where all of Canada joins in to celebrate the tremendous positive impact that coaches have on athletes and communities. This year, the Town of Cochrane is joining in by proclaiming Coaches Week in Cochrane during the same time period. The Cochrane sign beside Chimo at the Board of Trade and Visitors Information Centre will be lit up in the CAO colours throughout the week of September 21st to 29th 2019 and a Coaches Recognition & Awards Ceremony will be held at the Commando Pavilion (226 Fifth Street) on Friday September 20th at 7pm to celebrate the dedicated coaches in the community.

In addition to the Coaches Week participation, the Town of Cochrane has been chosen to host a series of coaching workshops and training sessions with the CAO for those who are interested in getting involved in coaching community sports or those looking to develop their coaching skills. Workshops will be on the topics of Planning a Practice, Designing a Basic Sport Program, and Making Ethical Decisions. Registration fees for the workshops are offered at a highly discounted rate and range from $10-$15 per session. These workshops will be held at the Tim Horton Events Centre at 7 Tim Horton Drive.

There will also be sports-specific coaches training for hockey coaches. The Hockey Instruction Skills will run from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm on Sunday September 22nd and is facilitated by the Northern Ontario Hockey Association.

The Town of Cochrane Community Services Department is thrilled to be a part of Coaches Week and to be able to offer the coaches clinic workshops and training to those in Cochrane and surrounding areas.
