    You may be following the Town’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak.  The Town has already taken steps to lessen the risk of spreading COVID-19 and we’re taking further precautions to help address this unique, ever-evolving situation.

    Protective Services:
    Office is closed to the public but staff are available by telephone or by appointments only by calling (705) 272-6758, from Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

    Building Department – Plan Submission and Permit Issuance:
    During this time we ask that all submissions be submitted through an appointment by calling the department at (705) 272-4262 from Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to drop off or pick up documents only.

    The Tim Horton Event Centre, Pavilion and Stage facilities, as well as parks are closed to the public until further notice.

    Day Care:
    The Cochrane Child Care Centre, Garde d’enfants de Cochrane and the EarlyON Cochrane Child and Family Centre are currently closed to the public.

    Virtual learning has been added to the Cochrane Child Care Centre Facebook page.  The service provides entertainment and suggestions of activities kids can do at home with their children that require common household products.

    Open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 PM regular hours and “call out” service is available 24/7

  • Public Works

    Operations and maintenance, including snow removal, continues.   Hours of operation are from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm; however, office is closed to the public but staff are available by telephone phone at: (705) 272-5086 for any inquiries.

    All entry into private residence has been suspended, impacting camera inspections, meter investigations and sewer rodding.

    Staff will continue to respond to complaints and check the sanitary main for blockage, perform emergency water shut-offs, and any other issue posing threat of property damage.

  • Water/Wastewater

    Water/Wastewater operations continue, including drinking water, wastewater collection and treatment, stormwater management, and emergency repair and response.

    Water payments can be made using online internet banking.  Your eleven (11) digit account number is required.  Service charges may apply.

  • Waste Collection and Recycling

    Residential curbside collection of garbage, recyclables, will continue.

    The Municipal Landfill site located in Fournier Township remains open, three days a week Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

    For the safety of our waste and recycling drivers, the Town asks that residents bag all garbage before placing in your receptable.  No loose garbage please.  This is especially important if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

    Recycling collection will continue as usual, although we also ask that those with symptoms hang onto their recyclables until they are well and no longer contagious.

    Recyclables need to be placed in a Blue Box.  Recyclables in bags will not be collected unless in clear bags.

    The Cochrane Public Library is closed until further notice.  For more details visit the Library’s website for updates on remote services and programs.

  • Provincial Offences

    The Provincial Offences Act office is closed to the public.

    All court dates are cancelled until May 29th, 2020 – new dates will be given to defendants.  See Notice  below:

    All Provincial Offences Act matters (e.g., traffic tickets and offences under provincial legislation) scheduled until May 29, 2020 will be rescheduled. Do not attend court.

    All Provincial Offences Act matters scheduled from Monday, March 16, 2020 through to and including Friday, May 29, 2020 will be adjourned and rescheduled to a later date. If you have a matter scheduled during this time, you do not need to attend court. This applies to all POA courts in Ontario.

    A notice of your new court date will be sent to you by mail to the address on file with the court. For more information, please contact your local Provincial Offences court.

    The following timelines have been extended:

    Sections 5(6), 5.1(2)(b), 5.1(12), 9(1)(a), 11(1), 11(4), 17.1(6.1), 18(1), 18.1(5),
    18.2(1), 18.3(1), 19, 66(1), 69(1), 116(2)(a), 116(3) and 135(2) of the Provincial
    Offences Act, and sections 5(2) and 5(3) of the Rules of the Ontario Court (General
    Division) and the Ontario Court (Provincial Division) in Appeals Under Section 116
    of the Provincial Offences Act, O. Reg. 723/94.

    A copy of the order is available on the Ontario Court of Justice website. It will also be available at all POA court offices as soon as practicable.

    Please also be advised that the Government of Ontario made an order pursuant to s. s. 7.1 of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMPCA), suspending any limitation periods in statutes and regulations for the duration of the State of Emergency.
    This will impact timelines under the Provincial Offences Act and related proceedings. A copy of the order is available online at:
