THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF COCHRANE

FOR THE WINTER PERIOD – A REMINDER OF PARKING AND SNOW REMOVAL RULES FOR EVERYONE’S SAFETY

The Town of Cochrane would like to remind residents of the rules for parking and snow removal that apply throughout the town to ensure the safety of all.

From November 1st  and until April 30th  inclusively, on street parking is prohibited when snow removal and plowing events occur.

When removing snow, please keep in mind that you must put it on your property to ensure everyone’s safety. The following are violations of the Town by-law:

  • Piling snow in a manner that obstructs the visibility of drivers, whether on public or private property;

  • Throwing snow within 1.5 m of a fire hydrant;

  • Throwing snow onto public property or onto the public right-of-way.

The time required to clear snow and spread abrasives on streets and sidewalks depends on weather conditions. Snow removal operations start when there is an average snowfall of approximately eight centimetres and are carried out in two stages: clearing and removal.

Clearing begins on major roads and streets close to schools and hospitals and then continues on smaller streets. These steps may be repeated, depending on the amount and duration of snowfall. Removal begins when snow has stopped falling and streets and sidewalks have been cleared. The length of the operation depends on the amount of the snowfall.

We will make every effort to ensure that both drivers and pedestrians can get around safely. Thank you in advance for complying with these rules so that we can remove snow quickly and efficiently throughout the Town.
