Cochrane, Ontario

Host of the ever popular Real Fishing Show, Bob Izumi, and Ontario Out of Doors highly acclaimed writer, James Smedley, will be stopping in Cochrane for a meet and greet enroute to an ice fishing trip on Lake Abitibi hosted by Dunn Right Outfitters at Lake Abitibi Halfway Lodge. Bob and James will be at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat at 3:30PM on March 27th for one hour to meet with media, local fishing enthusiasts and Mayor Peter Politis.

Bob Izumi is Canada’s most popular fishing personality and one of the foremost spokespersons on the sport. For over 34 years his weekly Real Fishing Show has educated and entertained legions of anglers, both young and old, on the finer points of fishing. Bob’s infectious enthusiasm and approachable demeanor have made him a “TV-buddy” to millions of Canadians.

James Smedley has been associated with Ontario Out of Doors Magazine for more than two decades, most recently as Travel Editor. He continues to write features and take photos for other areas of the magazine, and helps guide editorial direction. An avid angler, hunter, paddler, and camper, James’ life revolves around the outdoors. The passion he brings to his work has earned him more than 60 awards for writing and photography in Canada and the United States.

Sponsored by the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation and Northeastern Ontario Tourism, the excursion is intended to showcase late season ice fishing in Northeastern Ontario.  In most southern jurisdictions, ice fishing seasons for walleye close March 15.  In Northeastern Ontario, the season closes April 15.  For those central and southern Ontario fishing enthusiasts looking to extend their hard water fishing season, Northeastern Ontario offers an open season, amazing fishing for both walleye and northern pike and if mother nature cooperates, fishing in t-shirts on three feet of ice!
